StandLocal
Community guidelines
StandLocal works when neighbors who disagree can still talk. These rules apply everywhere on the site.
1. Debate the issue, not the person
Criticize proposals, decisions and arguments as hard as you like. Don’t insult, threaten or harass other members, residents, officials, or employees of any company.
2. No private information
Never post home addresses, personal phone numbers, private email addresses, photos of private individuals, or anything that could be used to locate or target someone. Public officials’ official contact information is fine.
3. Back up factual claims
Link the agenda, filing, study or article. Case files are for sourced facts; opinions belong in positions and the forums.
4. Keep it lawful and on-topic
No calls for violence or illegal action, no spam or advertising, no impersonation, and no content unrelated to local decisions.
5. One person, one account — and one signature
Don’t create extra accounts or sign a petition more than once to inflate supporter counts, and don’t sign on someone else’s behalf.
6. Petitions go to decision-makers
Petitions must be addressed to a public body, elected official, agency or organization — never a private individual. Moderators review new members’ petitions before they go live.
Moderation
Use the Report link on any post, position or case. Moderators may remove content, lock threads, or suspend accounts that break these rules. Moderators apply the same rules to every side of every case.
